Child Care Nutrition and Physical Activity Forums

The California Department of Education (CDE) is offering free virtual Nutrition and Physical Activity (NPA) Forums in May 2021. The forums highlight and demonstrate methods for integrating nutrition education, edible gardens, wellness policies, and physical activity into child care centers and homes. Participants will learn ways to create environments that maximize opportunities for children to develop healthy eating habits and to move their bodies to learn. These forums provide a unique platform where early childhood educators can express challenges and develop solutions toward supporting active living and healthy eating environments. All attendees will receive a toolkit with a variety of resources that they can immediately utilize in child care centers and homes.

The NPA Forums are an optional two-day training for early learning and care professionals. Each two-day NPA Forum consists of four 1.5-hour sessions with two sessions offered each day, for a total of 3.0 hours per day, as follows:

Day 1

o Session 1: Preschool Policies and Practices

o Session 2: Edible Classroom Gardens

Day 2

o Session 3: Active Bodies, Active Minds

o Session 4: Discovering Fruits, Vegetables, and Grains

Weekday NPA Forum:

Day 1: Monday, May 10, 2021 - 1:00–4:00 p.m.

Day 2: Tuesday, May 18, 2021 - 1:00–4:00 p.m.

OR

Weekend NPA Forum:

Day 1: Saturday, May 15, 2021 - 9:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m.

Day 2: Saturday, May 22, 2021 - 9:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m.
